All eyes are on South Korea in the beauty world – innovations like the cushion compact to exotic masks with 24K gold to superpower serums all originated there. KBeauty’s takeover of our morning and nighttime routines is largely due to Sarah Lee and her team at Glow Recipe who have created a platform of curated natural Korean products for us who are stateside. Poreless and perfect, Sarah is one of the most humble bosses in the game. With more than 10 years of experience in this industry, she is strategically building an empire for the her platform and new Korean beauty brands who are finding inroads to major retailers like Sephora and Saks Fifth Avenue with her guidance. We look up to her like a fairy god-sister(?) of all things beauty, who patiently walks us through customized recommendations for our skincare woes and gifts us with skin-saving goodies like this bouncy Watermelon sleeping mask, which we now can’t live without.
Korean beauty. I’m fascinated by the hyper-speed, ultra-advanced skincare innovations from Korea, and I’m passionate about sharing the philosophy of K-beauty. “Skintertainment”, for example, is a huge part of what makes K-beauty so special – that with the right product, your beauty routine should be a little slice of sunshine in your day. Pampering your skin and yourself should be enjoyable and fun! Not a chore.
New York, because you can truly be who you are, and express yourself here.
A hydrating face mist – I carry one around with me at all times, keep one by my bedside, and on my desk in the office.
My mom is the biggest inspiration for me. I grew up watching my mother use many many products, delicately applying each to her skin as part of her daily routine. She taught me that taking care of the skin is not an obsession with the preservation of youth, rather the philosophy that if you respect your skin, it will respect you back and reward you with a beautiful complexion your entire life. I’m also always inspired by the streets and the people of NYC!
That I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Stepping outside of my comfort zone (ie, my former job at a beauty conglomerate), and continuing to pursue something knowing that there will be unpredictable hurdles along the way. It’s a challenge and a driver at the same time that worked for me to keep pushing and trying harder.
Two things :
1) Being on ABC’s Shark Tank and getting three investment offers on the spot! Applying for it was also one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The best part is that I was able to share the wonderful world of K-beauty with America. The impact was incredible in so many aspects. I learned so much along the way and I cannot be more prepared for any new challenges to come. The emails and supportive comments from Shark Tank viewers and our customers have been beyond motivating and we’re just very grateful for this opportunity.
2) Seeing our very own products on the shelves of Sephora. It’s surreal and humbling to see that one of the items, Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask is still constantly sold out!
A true multi-tasker that will condense the beauty routine, with clean ingredients. I think the natural hyphenates are the next big thing in beauty, and frankly – what all women want!
Cleanser – Tone – Treat (with antioxidant packed ingredients) – Moisturize
I love a good sheet mask that I can use for the treatment step, or whenever I’m on the plane!
